Evidence of the Oneness of the Creator |The Manifestations of the Universe’s Order and the Unity of Its Laws

Introduction

When a person reflects on this vast universe — from the smallest electron orbiting a nucleus, to the farthest galaxy rotating around its center — they notice that one single order runs through everything, and that fixed laws govern different phenomena despite the distance between their locations and the difference in their scales. This comprehensive order, which never falters or becomes disturbed despite this immense complexity, is one of the strongest rational proofs that this universe comes from The All-Wise and The All-Knowing — with no partner in His creation.

Chapter One: The Proof of Mutual Hindrance — Had There Been Multiple Gods, the Universe Would Have Been Corrupted

Allah the Almighty says:

“Say, [O Muḥammad], “If there had been with Him [other] gods, as they say, then they [each] would have sought to the Owner of the Throne a way ۝ Exalted is He and high above what they say by great sublimity. The seven heavens and the earth and whatever is in them exalt Him ۝ And there is not a thing except that it exalts [Allāh] by His praise, but you do not understand their [way of] exalting. Indeed, He is ever Forbearing and Forgiving.'” (Al-Isra 17:42 to 44)

“Allāh has not taken any son, nor has there ever been with Him any deity. [If there had been], then each deity would have taken what it created, and some of them would have [sought to] overcome others. Exalted is Allāh above what they describe [concerning Him].” (Al-Mu’minun 23:91)

Ibn Kathir, may Allah have mercy on him, said in his commentary on this verse: “The Almighty declares Himself above having a son or a partner in dominion, saying: (Allāh has not taken any son, nor has there ever been with Him any deity. [If there had been], then each deity would have taken what it created, and some of them would have [sought to] overcome others. ), meaning: had multiplicity of gods been supposed, each one would have taken sole possession of what he created, and existence would not have been ordered. What we observe, however, is that existence is ordered and coherent — the upper realm and the lower realm are each connected to the other, in the utmost perfection, (who created seven heavens in layers. You do not see in the creation of the Most Merciful any inconsistency. So return [your] vision [to the sky]; do you see any breaks?) [Al-Mulk 67:3]. Moreover, each of them would have sought to overpower and oppose the other, and some would have risen above others.The Speakers (المتكلمون) expressed this same meaning through what is known as the proof of mutual hindrance: if two or more makers were supposed, and one willed to move an object while the other willed it to remain still, then either both their wills would be fulfilled simultaneously (which is impossible, since they contradict one another), or neither would be fulfilled (in which case both would be powerless, and a Necessary Being cannot be powerless) ” (Tafsir Ibn Kathir, Quran, 23:91)

the explanation lead to the conclusion: with more than one god, there would be conflict, and some would overcome others, as the verse says. Yet existence is ordered and coherent, so this cannot be. Allāh, the Exalted, is far above what they describe.

The observed evidence for this rational meaning is what we see with our own eyes: complete order among all the parts of the universe, from the atom to the galaxy, without any trace of conflict, contradiction.

Chapter Two: A Single Pattern Repeating from the Atom to the Galaxy

1. The Electron’s Orbit Around the Nucleus

At the heart of every atom, electrons (negatively charged) orbit a nucleus made of protons and neutrons, held in balance by the electromagnetic force, which precisely balances the nucleus’s pull on the electron against the electron’s kinetic energy — so it neither collapses into the nucleus nor escapes from it. This law is one and unchanging in every atom, whether in your own body or in a star millions of light-years away.

2. The Moon’s Orbit Around the Earth

The Moon orbits the Earth roughly every 27.3 days, governed by the law of gravity: Earth’s gravity pulls it inward, while its orbital speed pushes it to escape, producing a precise balance that regulates the tides and stabilizes the tilt of Earth’s axis.

3. The Earth’s Orbit Around the Sun

The Earth orbits the Sun in about 365.25 days, at a speed of roughly 107,000 km/h, governed by the very same law of gravity that keeps the Moon bound to Earth’s orbit. It is also the same law that has kept every planet in its orbit around the Sun for 4.6 billion years, without collision or escape.

4. The Sun’s Orbit Around the Galactic Center

The Sun itself, with its entire solar system, orbits the center of the Milky Way galaxy at a speed of about 828,000 km/h, completing one revolution in roughly 230 million years (a “galactic year”), within a galaxy containing hundreds of billions of stars — all orbiting a common center by that same force of gravity.

From the scale of the atom (fractions of a nanometer) to the scale of the galaxy (thousands of light-years) — a difference so immense the mind cannot fully grasp it — the same pattern repeats: a smaller body orbiting a larger one, governed by an attractive force following fixed equations. Had this universe had multiple creators, “………….. each deity would have taken what it created, and some of them would have [sought to] overcome others. Exalted is Allāh above what they describe [concerning Him].” (Al-Mu’minun 23:91) and the law of the atom would have diverged from the law of the galaxy. But what is actually observed is the exact opposite: one law repeating without any inconsistency, confirming the words of the Almighty: “……………..You do not see in the creation of the Most Merciful any inconsistency. So return [your] vision [to the sky]; do you see any breaks?” [Al-Mulk 67:3]

Chapter Three: The Connections Between the Sun and Plants, Animals, and Humans

The Sun and Plants

The Sun lies 150 million kilometers away, yet every green leaf is directly connected to it: energy from nuclear fusion in the Sun travels eight minutes to reach a plant’s chlorophyll, which uses it to break down water and convert carbon dioxide into food, releasing oxygen in the process. One single law operates in every plant on the face of the Earth.

The Sun, Animals, and Humans

The herbivore eats the plant, receiving the stored solar energy; the carnivore eats the herbivore; the human eats from both, so that the Sun’s own energy reaches them after a journey through a complete food chain. Even the oxygen we breathe is what the plant released by the action of sunlight.

Chapter Four: The Connections Between the Internal Parts of the Human Body

The human body is a single, integrated network:

The lungs: take in oxygen and expel carbon dioxide.
The heart: pumps oxygen-laden blood to every cell, and receives carbon-dioxide-laden blood to return it to the lungs.
The digestive system: converts food into molecules the blood absorbs as fuel for the cells.
The liver: purifies the blood and regulates sugar and fat levels.
The kidneys: filter waste from the blood.
The brain and nervous system: send electrical signals — fundamentally based on the movement of electrons, that is, on the very same electromagnetic law that governs the atom — coordinating every organ without conflict.

If a single part failed, the entire system would break down. This is a miniature model in which the same principle repeats: multiple parts working under one harmonious law to serve a single greater whole.

Chapter Five: The Level of Complexity Upon Which the Universe Is Built

The universe is not built on a single simple law alone, but on successive layers of complexity, each layer depending on the stability of the one beneath it:

Quarks → protons and neutrons → atomic nuclei → atoms (governed by quantum law) → molecules → living cells → tissues and organs → the living organism → ecosystems → solar systems → galaxies → galactic clusters.

Had a single physical constant — such as the strength of gravity, the nuclear force, or the electron’s charge — been off by even a minuscule fraction, not a single atom would have formed, no star, no planet, no life. This is what science calls “fine-tuning,” and it is one of the most astonishing proofs that this coherent complexity was designed by an All-Knowing, All-Wise Being: “He to whom belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth: no son has He begotten, nor has He a partner in His dominion: it is He who created all things, and ordered them in due proportions.” (Al-Furqan 25:2).

An Analogy: The Human Cell as an Integrated City

Consider a single cell among the 37 trillion cells in your body — it is like a fully integrated industrial city:

The nucleus: the center of administration, holding the “central library” (DNA), containing the blueprints for building the entire body, written in a chemical language of just four letters.
The mitochondria: the power-generating stations, converting food into fuel (ATP).
The ribosomes: the production factories, reading instructions and building proteins.
The endoplasmic reticulum and Golgi apparatus: the packaging and shipping lines, sending each “parcel” to its precise destination.
The cell membrane: the city wall and its checkpoints, precisely regulating what enters and exits.
The lysosomes: the recycling and waste-management companies, breaking down waste and reusing what can be recovered.

All these “factories” operate in perfect coordination, with no human manager overseeing them, repeating flawlessly across trillions of cells for an entire lifetime. If a single industrial city run by thousands of people requires meticulous planning to avoid falling into disorder, how could a city smaller than a pinhead — running thousands of coordinated “factories” — exist without a Creator who designed and governs it?

This layered, organized complexity is stronger evidence, not weaker: randomness produces disorder, while the stacking of precisely tuned systems — from the quark, to the cell, to the galaxy — is the mark of a single directing Mind.

Chapter Six: Where Did the Oxygen Atom Come From?

The oxygen atom you are breathing right now has an astonishing cosmic history:

The light elements (hydrogen and most helium) formed in the first moments after the Big Bang.
The heavier elements — such as oxygen, carbon, iron, and calcium — formed only inside the cores of stars, through nuclear fusion.
When a star reaches the end of its life, it explodes in an event called a supernova, scattering these heavy elements across space.
From this stellar dust, gas clouds later gathered by gravity to form new stars and planets — including Earth itself.

So the oxygen atom in your lungs, the carbon atom in your cells, and the calcium atom in your bones were born in the core of a star that died before the Sun and Earth ever existed. Going back even further, every atom in the universe — from your own atoms to the farthest galaxy — traces back to a single point, a single moment: the Big Bang, roughly 13.8 billion years ago, after which they formed and dispersed according to fixed, unchanging laws, without any inconsistency or contradiction.

And Allah says:

“Have not those who disbelieve known that the heavens and the earth were joined together as one united piece, then We parted them? And We have made from water every living thing. Will they not then believe?” (Al-Anbya 21:30)

Chapter Seven: The Single Origin of the Universe Proves One Creator

The Question Behind the Story

The journey of the oxygen atom raises a deeper question: if everything in the universe shares one origin, what does that tell us about the One who originated it?

First Evidence: One Beginning

Modern cosmology teaches that all matter, energy, space, and time in the observable universe emerged together from a single, extremely hot and dense state, and have been expanding ever since. The atoms in your body and the light of the farthest galaxy share this same beginning. No part of the universe has a separate, independent start. One origin points to one cause, just as a single coherent book points to a single author.

Allah Says:

“And the heaven We constructed with strength, and indeed, We are [its] expander.”(Adh-Dhariyat, 51:47)

Second Evidence: One Set of Laws

Astronomers analyze the light of stars billions of light-years away and find the same hydrogen, the same oxygen, and the same spectral signatures we find on Earth. Gravity, electromagnetism, and the nuclear forces act identically in our solar system and in the most distant galaxy. No region of the universe runs under different rules. This is exactly what we would expect if one The Creator Will governs the whole of it.

Allah says:

“Had there been within them [i.e., the heavens and earth] gods besides Allāh, they both would have been ruined. So exalted is Allāh, Lord of the Throne, above what they describe.” (Al-Anbiya 21:22)

Third Evidence: The Proof of Mutual Hindrance in the Cosmos

In Chapter One we saw the rational proof in Al-Isra 17:42 and Al-Mu’minun 23:91: had there been several gods, each would have taken what he created, and some would have overcome others. Now apply that to what we have just seen.

If there were several creators, we would expect several origins, several sets of laws, and regions governed by conflicting rules.
We would expect the forces that forged the oxygen atom in one star to fail or contradict those in another galaxy.

Instead we find one unbroken order: one beginning, one set of laws, one harmony from the atom to the galaxy.

This is the meaning of the verse:

“……………You do not see in the creation of the Most Merciful any inconsistency. So return [your] vision [to the sky]; do you see any breaks?” (Al-Mulk 67:3)

The universe has one origin, one order, and one set of laws, with no trace of conflict. Therefore its Creator is One. Allah says:

Conclusion: A Single Thread Extending from the Electron to the Galaxy

Reflect on this integrated scene: an electron orbiting a nucleus under a fixed law; a moon orbiting an earth ; an earth orbiting a sun; a sun orbiting a galactic center; a ray from that sun turning into food in a plant, then into blood and a heartbeat in a human being; every atom in that body originating from the explosion of a star that died billions of years ago; and that star, that atom, this heart, that ray — all tracing back to one single, first origin.

There is no divergence between the law of the atom and the law of the galaxy, no conflict between the systems of plants, animals, and humans, and no separation between the history of an oxygen atom and the history of the universe as a whole. This comprehensive interconnection cannot be blind chance, nor the product of multiple, competing designs in which each deity took what it created. Rather, it is the trace of a single, precise governance — bearing witness to the oneness of Him who said of Himself, Exalted is He:

“Allāh – there is no deity except Him, the Ever-Living, the Self-Sustaining. Neither drowsiness overtakes Him nor sleep. To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth. Who is it that can intercede with Him except by His permission? He knows what is [presently] before them and what will be after them, and they encompass not a thing of His knowledge except for what He wills. His Kursī extends over the heavens and the earth, and their preservation tires Him not. And He is the Most High, the Most Great.” (Al-Baqarah 2:255)

Final Section: From Reflecting on the Signs to Learning the Book

Your Journey Does Not End Here

If the order of the universe has shown you the greatness of its Creator, the Quran is where that Creator speaks to you directly. The same One who set the electron in its orbit and the galaxy in its course sent a Book to guide you, and He invites you to reflect on it:

“Then do they not reflect upon the Qur’ān, or are there locks upon [their] hearts?” (Muhammad 47:24)

Reflection begins with understanding, and understanding begins with the language in which the Quran was revealed:

“Indeed, We have sent it down as an Arabic Qur’ān that you might understand.” (Yusuf 12:2)

And the Prophet ﷺ said: “The best among you (Muslims) are those who learn the Qur’an and teach it.” (Sahih al-Bukhari)
